Family owned company gets parties jumping

WILTON — The Roland family can help you dunk your boss, or bounce your kids, or satisfy your soccer team’s sweet tooth with cotton candy. Joseph Roland, his wife, Viviana, and his brother, Anthony, operate Jumping Bean Party Rental in Wilton, offering a broad variety of inflatable equipment, tents, chairs, fun food machines, and carnival games for festive special events.
A Marine Corps buddy of Joe Roland’s owns a similar business on Long Island, and helped Roland get started with Jumping Bean.
“We started last year, but this year we’re full time and growing,” says the entrepreneur.
Already, the family owned and operated business books between 50 and 60 events per month, renting inflatable wet/dry slides or obstacle courses, or birthday cake bouncers. “Our vision is coming into fruition. A year ago we were just creating the business name and making plans,” Roland said.
Joe and Viviana are expecting their first child soon, so they are particularly gratified that their efforts are working out.
“Business is pretty good, considering the economy,” he said.
The largest events Jumping Bean has worked include commercial events, including University at Albany.
Planning and setting up a large amount of equipment required a great amount of interaction with a large number of people, Roland found, and was quite rewarding.
“They used our dunk tanks, and basketball units, and interactive units, Roland said.
Churches and preschools have been good customers, too, renting larger bounce inflatables.
Dunk tanks are tremendously popular as fund raisers.
Roland estimates the young company has invested between $70,000 and $90,000 in the specialized equipment, which is shown and described on the company’s Web site.
For each event, the Rolands set up and break down the equipment and or tents, and demonstrate how it is operated.
“We have enough equipment for now, but in the future it will require more equipment and more vehicles on the road,” Roland predicts.
“It’s a fun business to be in.”
